The room was very clean and comfortable
I couldn't get wireless internet working. We went to the restaurant for breakfast and it wasn't very organized. Waited a half hour for someone to take our order and then another half hour to 45 minutes for our food to come. Other guests got frustrated and got up and left!

Nice ambience and good feeling. Location is awesome with great views. Close to amenities. Good dining and bar hours. Love that rooms were named after obscure little coves, etc.
Lack of outdoor aesthetics and comfort (places to sit - ie one wooden bench). Very ugly landscaping and exterior very unwelcoming.

The staff was helpful and friendly.
I did not receive the room I booked. I ended up in what looked like an old wing, with mismatched, very worn down furniture, stained carpet, and well used albeit clean bathroom, windows with broken opening mechanisms, with a view of a parking lot, garbage bins and in the morning hours watched the garbage trucks doing their job. At the end of the stay the reception charged me the prime rate I was to pay for the "Double Room with Two Double Beds and Harbour View". After talking to them, they reduced the rate by $30. At $129, I still thought it was way too expensive for the room I received, but I let it slide. I will definitely not come back and will not recommend this hotel to anyone. When I mentioned Battery Hotel to locals, their reaction was fairly consistent: oh, Battery, it used (emphasis on used) to be a fine hotel.

Helpfullness of staff and relaxed atmosphere. Good views across harbour and town.
Room had a musty smell on first arrival. Room was on ground floor with a number of people walking past, shouild have been fitted with net type curtains as well as normal ones to allow some privacy whilst letting daylight in.

The location was very convenient. It was our first visit to St john's, so we wanted to do as much as possible. Easy acess to Signal Hill, as well as downtown was perfect. Ample parking was also appreciated for when we rented a car.
Our room was a little stuffy. We had a "city view" (should not have been billed as a city view--we overlooked the parking lot). Wedding guests were noisy as they left, quite late into Saturday night, and because we had the window open, each wave of revellers woke us up as they carried the party out to the lot before they left for home.

I was on the top floor, so I did not experience any issues with noise. And the bed felt relatively new and was extremely comfortable. Didn't really stay long enough to have a good feel for the place; Yes, I would have stayed longer if I could have.
The "fitness centre" consisted of a functional cycle and treadmill; I could not get the stair climber to work. No pool. But better than some. As for the "Harbor View" - just a warning to people traveling in June, it's the Foggy Season in St. John's - there's not much of a view when you can barely see 10 feet in front of you! :) But I can imagine, it would have been quite good.

The thing I liked best about The Battery was the beds and the new decorating concept. It was cool to read all the Newfoundland Sayings on the wall and the idea of having all the rooms named after different places in Newfoundland. The room we were in was newly renovated and had the most amazing beds. They were so comfortable it was super easy to get a great nights sleep.
Well, it is an older hotel and for the price, I thought it would be nicer. There is no store and if you forgot anything you had to use a vending machine that is sometimes stocked. It is really out of the way from any main road and it was a time just trying to find your way to and from the hotel. But the most disappointing thing about the hotel (which really isn't their fault, but they still should have had some sort of compensation) was the fact that we didn't have any water the entire last day we were there. So we couldn't take a shower, brush out teeth, or use the toilet. We ended up checking out early and not getting any discount/refund/coupon.

The location is excellent. It is also located in an historical context, on Signal Hill.

There was very little to like. The view I was promised and paid for did not materialize and I looked out on a wall from a basement room. That would have been the best feature. People were nice (actually all Newfoundlanders were very nice) and that is what was best.
Basically, the hotel was a dump by Montreal standards and certainly after the 5 nights at the Marriott. Dirty, run down, multiple malfunctions in an ugly room. Won't be back.

The hotel staff were sympathetic to my concerns on check out and gave me a discount
I paid for a harbour front view. I was given an old, run down basement room so this site and the hotel need to collaborate better on the available facilities.

The location was great and the view from the restaurant was beautiful. The staff was friendly and knew the area.
About the only thing I could say is that I noticed was that the hallways on the guest floors where not the cleanest looking. They where in need of a very good vacuum for the 3days I was there.
